BREAD UPMA / BREAD SEEYALI | EASY BREAD RECIPES

       My kid is not a big fan of bread upma,he prefers other snacks using bread than this bread upma. But I love any upmas. Bread upma is a real treat too for me. This is a good tea time snack for kids. I tried this from MB’s cookbook…You can make it in a jiffy when the are in real hunger. Will post my kid’s favourite bread snacks in recent future, as he has got holidays now.

BREAD UPMA

 

Ingredients

Bread slice 4
Onion 1
Tomato 1
Green Chilli 2
Sambar powder 3/4 tsp
Turmeric powder 1/8 tsp
Ginger garlic paste (optional) 1/2 tsp
Salt 3/4 tsp
Curry Leaves 1 sprig
Coriander leaves To garnish
Ghee 1 tsp

To Temper

Oil 1 tblsp
Mustard 3/4 tsp
Urad dal 1 tsp
Channa dal 1 tsp
Cashew nuts(optional) 3-4

Method:

  1. Cut the bread slices into bite size squares. Slice the onion,green chillies and chop tomato.
  2. Heat a pan with oil and season with the items given under the ‘To Temper’ table(I omitted cashews).Fry onions till transparent and add the ginger garlic paste and fry for a minute.

  3. Add tomatoes,salt and fry till tomatoes turn soft.Add turmeric and sambhar powder and stir well. Sprinkle some water.

  4. Add the bread pieces and mix/toss well.Add ghee,keep in low flame and cook for two minutes to see golden brown spots here and there in the bread pieces.

Garnish with the coriander leaves,serve hot with tomato ketchup or onion raita.

Bread-Upma

Notes:

  • You can omit tomatoes and add tomato sauce/ketchup.
  • Cashew,ghee are optional to enhance the taste.
  • You can wheat bread (or multigrain/whole meal bread)instead of white bread.
  • I have seen in other blogs using crushed peanuts,so if you like you can add that too in the end.
  • Sprinkle a tsp of lemon juice at the end if you want an extra zing.
