Apples And Red Cabbage Recipe

Apples and Red Cabbage
1 red cabbage
2 tart apples, diced
1/2 onion, diced
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
1 tbsp. lemon juice
2 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. flour
2 tbsp. shortening
1 c. water
pinch of black pepper
Wash and shred cabbage. Heat shortening and add cabbage and onion. Stir to coat cabbage and onion thoroughly with shortening, add apples, salt and water. Cook over low heat for 30 minutes. Add and stir in lemon juice, sugar, flour, vinegar and pepper. Continue cooking for additional 15 minutes.
