Jim’s French Toast

Jim, as a teenager
I know you love French toast for breakfast as we do! Thanks to my brother, Jim, I am giving you his delicious recipe for French toast.
This is a great recipe for a leisurely Sunday morning breakfast or brunch! It is so easy; you can prepare it the night before, get up the next morning and pop it in the oven. Just the aroma alone will drive everyone straight out of bed; it’s all about the cinnamon! While you are frying your bacon or sausage, the French toast will be baking in the oven.
For the bread I used Texas Toast and with all the eggs and milk it bakes up to a rich golden brown. After it is baked, drizzle warm maple syrup over it and “voila”---you’ll have a wonderful tasty breakfast!
Jim’s French Toast
Ingredients:
1 loaf uncut white bread
6 eggs
¼ cup sugar
2 cups milk
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla
¼ teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
4-5 tablespoons butter
Cut eight ¾” slices from bread. Cut each in half diagonally.
Lay in single layer in shallow baking dish.
Beat well (all except butter) the remaining ingredients and coat both sides of the bread.
Cover with foil and refrigerate over night.
Next morning, remove casserole from refrigerator and uncover.
Dot top with 4-5 tablespoons of butter.
Bake, uncovered at 350 degrees for about 50 minutes, until bread is puffy and lightly browned.
Serve with your favorite syrup.
Yum! Great breakfast!
Thank you and Happy New Year, Jim!
