Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies Recipe

If you are a regular blog reader here on my recipe blog, you have probably guessed by now that I absolutely love to bake cookies!

This sugar cookie recipe is what I call my *lazy* recipe as you don't need to roll out the dough and use cookie cutters. You can just drop the dough by rounded tablespoon onto your baking sheet and use your spoon to flatten the cookie. I used what I had on hand (left-over sprinkles from the Christmas Holiday) to decorate them.

Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies Recipe

1 c. (2 sticks) butter, softened
3/4 c. granulated sugar
1 egg
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
Colored Sugars or Sprinkles

Beat butter and sugar together in a large bowl with a mixer at medium speed until creamy and smooth. Add in the egg, beat until fluffy. Stir in the flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon until well blended. Form dough into a ball and wrap in plastic wrap or place into a large zipper close gallon-sized bag. Refrigerate for 2 hours.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Separete dough into manageable portions. Drop dough onto lightly greased cookie sheets using a tablespoon. Use the spoon to flatten the cookie dough. Sprinkle the top of each cookie with colored sugar.

Bake for 7-8 minutes or until they are lightly browned. Let cookies stand on cookie sheet for 1-2 minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool. Store in an airtight container.

*note* These cookies also freeze well after they are baked. I like to place a dozen cookies into a zipper close bag or into a small plastic container and freeze them for up to 3 months.
